The papers of Everett Day Hawkins mainly document the two years Hawkins spent from 1927 to 1929 in Taigu, China, as a Shansi Representative of Oberlin College. Materials from this period include Hawkins' correspondence to his family from China, a diary, photographs, scrapbooks, and memorabilia. Letters and photographs provide a partial account of Hawkins' residence (1944-1946) in Chungking, China as Director of Information for the China Division of the U.S. Office of War Information. Almost no information is available in this collection regarding Hawkins' 36-year teaching career at Mt. Holyoke College (1935- 1963) and the University of Wisconsin (1963-1970).
